A/N: Alright folks, just a heads up, this is gonna be a LONG one, about twice as long as my usual chapters; I tried to find a good place to split it, but unfortunately there wasn't one. Chapter 7: Trouble in Hogsmeade When Meli arrived at the Transfiguration classroom, she found Professor Weasley sitting at her desk, conversing with a house elf. ‘Oh, excuse Deek,’ said the elf, and with a snap of his fingers, he vanished. ‘Ah!’ Professor Weasley said, and she stood up and walked around her desk to meet Meli as she approached. ‘There you are. Chapter 6: Friendly Competition ‘So, what’d Weasley say?’ Rowan asked as Meli sat down next to him at the Slytherin table. ‘Gave me somethin’ called a Wizard’s Field Guide and taught me how to use it,’ Meli said, loading kippers onto her plate. ‘She also taught me how to use the castle’s Floo Flames and told me that I’m gonna be gettin’ extra assignments from the professors to help me catch up, and she and Professor Fig taught me how to use the Guide’s map.’ ‘Wizard’s Field Guide?’ Rowan repeated. ‘What’s that?’ Meli set down her fork and pulled out the Field Guide, showing it to Rowan. He stared at it with an odd expression for a moment. ‘Okay,’ he said. ‘I just...want ye to take off yer robe, and stand up while holdin’ that book. Just fer a second.’ Meli raised an eyebrow, but obliged, removing her robe and standing up from the table, resting the Field Guide on her hip. Rowan’s face shifted as though he was trying not to laugh. ‘So weird,’ he said, shaking his head. ‘Why?’

Chapter 5: Friends, Fig, and the Field Guide She awoke the next morning to the sound of the other girls getting up and getting ready for the day. Imelda was the first one out the door; Meli supposed that as Quidditch Captain, she was used to early morning practice sessions. Meli, Nerida, and Violet continued their morning routines, Meli thankfully being able to borrow a comb from Nerida to try and make her hair at least somewhat manageable. She wrapped it up into her usual bun, a couple of stray locks falling down at either side of her face, gave herself a final once-over in the mirror, then left the dormitory after Violet and Nerida. She stopped outside the corridor, remembering once again that she knew exactly no one except her brother, and he had his own friends that he would undoubtedly want to spend his free time with. Chapter 4: The Sorting Meli hung back as Professor Fig leaned close to the door leading into the Great Hall so that he could check and see exactly how much Meli had missed. Now that they were safe from Ranrok, the pre-Hogwarts anxiety had come back in full force. While she was originally supposed to arrive at Hogwarts separately from the other students, she had still been supposed to join the first-years and queue up for the Sorting with them; thanks to the dragon attack, their detour into Gringotts, and the encounter with Ranrok, she and Professor Fig were now very late. ‘Oh, good,’ said Professor Fig, turning back to face Meli. ‘We haven’t missed the Sorting Ceremony.’ He drew his wand, aiming it at her clothes. ‘I’m no expert, but...’ Meli watched as her clothes transformed before her eyes, changing into an all-black Hogwarts uniform; a white linen shirt, a necktie, a tweed waistcoat with a matching ankle-length skirt over boots and stockings, finished off with a Hogwarts robe.

Chapter 3: Vault Number Twelve ‘Ah...just a moment,’ said the goblin banker, stepping down from the podium, muttering to himself. He stopped in front of them, looked at them both, then bowed deeply. ‘Welcome to Gringotts Wizarding Bank. ...Vault number twelve, I presume?’ Meli glanced at Professor Fig. ‘...Precisely,’ he said. The banker stared at them expectantly for a moment. ‘...The key?’ he said, holding out his hand. ‘Hm?’ said Professor Fig, confused. Meli gave him a pointed look. ‘The key,’ she repeated, hoping the banker wouldn’t sense that anything was off and that they did indeed have the slightest clue what they were doing. ‘Oh!’ said Professor Fig. ‘Yes, of course.’ He withdrew the mysterious key from his jacket and handed it to the banker, who examined it for a moment as though verifying its authenticity. ‘This way, then,’ said the banker, leading them over to a small platform at the side of the room. ‘Stay close,’ Professor Fig muttered to Meli as they followed
